About R.M. Perry ~ Color & Soul
Some artists choose art. For R.M. Perry, art was simply always there.
Her first work came at age four ~ a diorama in a box, string used as a pen, a girl and her dog standing beside a flower with the sun shining down. The instinct to make something, to capture a moment of warmth and connection, has never left her.
Art was her favorite class in elementary school. In high school she explored ceramics, drawing techniques, and the satisfying resistance of linoleum cut prints. In college she chose Chinese over drawing ~ and learned nearly 3,000 characters ~ discovering that language itself is a form of art.
On a cross-country drive age 30 she began cartooning, which evolved into handmade 'zines chronicling personal history, then elaborate illustrated year-end pages shared the baby-time through the mid-nineties. Rhyming couplets took over for a few months as she started her Master's degree in 2001.
Since 2002 the elaborate color/texture/patterns began ~ bold & intricate, unmistakably hers.
In 2012, remission from cancer with healing vibes brought the memes ~ colorful pages carrying words worth remembering.
In 2025, Animal Magic was born with a clear vision: a Sacred Cow she simply had to create. More sculptures are in development. They will appear in good time.
Through cancer treatments in 2010 and 2011, through decades of life fully lived, the making never stopped.
In early 2026, Rai made it official ~ bringing her work into a serious online presence for the first time. The purpose is threefold: to make good artistic use of her living hours, to share her visions with those who might discover her, and to build financial independence as a creative entrepreneur.
This shop offers her work as print-on-demand ~ art made accessible, wearable, and giftable.
Almost any item of hundreds can be adorned with her original creative images ~ and custom sets for your special events are available to order.
Original works will be available separately ~ inquire directly if you're drawn to owning a one-of-a-kind piece.
She is lucky to be alive. She is most happy in motion ~ or making something.
Her work has always found its own audience ~ those who navigate complexity with grace, who see the world through a different and often richer lens, who feel things deeply and find meaning in bold color and unexpected beauty. She spent years wondering how to find her people. She is here now, making her work visible, hoping they find her, too.
Welcome to Color & Soul. You found her.
